The local government region of Scotland of Grampian existed from 1975 to 1996 and nowadays it is divided into three separate unitary council regions called Aberdeenshire, The City of Aberdeen and of course Moray.

This wonderful county has local areas comprising of the six districts of Aberdeen, Banff and Buchan, Deeside, Gordon, Moray and Kincardine. This region got the county name from the magnificent local Grampian Mountains. The old Grampian area still however has the combined electoral authority, police force, fire services, national health boards and valuation office.

Annual games occur here and the winner is the one who defeats all competitors overall to become “The Grampian Champion” in this area.

One of the three main mountain ranges in Scotland, are the Grampian Mountains, also very famously known as The Grampians and they occupy quite a sufficient part of the Scottish Highlands in the North East of Scotland.

By extension many people confuse this whole region as “The Grampians” due not just to this mountain range. The other reason given for this can be said to be the independent TV Station, called Grampian Television that was assigned to cover the north east of Scotland after the Regionalization of Scotland TV in 1975. These two reasons were enough to put the name Grampians into the minds of many people. Architects too that were from outside the area have added to this confusion by also stretching this name to cover the whole of Eastern Scotland.

Until recently, Deeside was a lonely and unfrequented area, and this was because there was the mountain barrier of the Grampians, which starts on a low altitude by the sea shore and gets elevated through many heights like Mount Battoch at 2555 ft, Beinn a Ghlo at 3671 ft, Cairn Mon Earn at 1245 ft to Beinn Dearg that is at 3304 ft.

The Cairngorms is the range of mountains that go from south of Aberdeen westward to Beinn Dearg in the area of Atholl. An author has described The Cairngorms as the range of the River Dee and another group of hills that runs from Drumochter, which is in Walmost to the sea that lies just south of Aberdeen.

Several books and maps describe this as the Grampians, and kids do learn this from outside world. This is not mentioned wrongly in any of the local schools or in local homes of course and neither are they spoken as such at any local speech or lectures. Some geographers have added fuel to this confusion by printing Grampians instead of Cairngorms also over the Strath Don Hills and these authors are presuming errors on where the Cairngorms actually lie.

The Grampians range lies southwest to northeast between the Gleann M?r or the Great Glen and Highland Boundary Fault, covering almost half the region of Scotland. Then of course you have the separate Cairngorms and the Lochaber range of hills. This range has Ben Nevis as the apex point in the British Isles at 1,344 meters above sea level and Ben Macdui, which is the second highest at 1,309 meters.

Berkshire is an inland county of Southern England on the South bank of the River Thames with Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire in the North, Hampshire to the South, Surrey in the South-East and Wiltshire to the West.

It is a little irregular in shape with a length of 43 miles from East to West and 30 miles from North to South and covering an area of 462210 acres approx.

The county has three parliamentary divisions, seven municipal boroughs and one hundred and ninety-three parishes.

There are many ancient castles and churches here with good examples of Norman and later architectural periods and mitered Benedictine Abbots used to live in Reading and Abington also.

Berkshire has been arguably ill served by administrative boundary changes. In 1974, the county lost the vale of the White Horse including Wantage, Didcot, Wallingford and Abington to Oxfordshire but however gained a big town called Slough from Buckinghamshire and also the boundary change assimilated Reading’s growth North of the Thames into Berkshire as well.

When you arrive in Berkshire you may see Buckleberry Farm Park in which you can watch deer in their natural habitat. Take a free tractor and trailer ride to see them from close quarters and try hand feeding the tamer members of the herd.

Ponies, donkeys, pigs, wild boar and lots of other animals are available to pat and feed. It has a large area for indoor games, outdoor adventure playgrounds, nature trail, woodland walks and a large picnic area. It’ll be a great day for the whole of family, whatever the season might be.

Then of course you have Lego Land a whole new Land of the Vikings. In its heart it has the biggest, wildest, wettest ride in the Park. Join the Viking fleet and set sail for a white water voyage through turbulent rapids. Here your children will encounter mythical sea monsters, race through raging waters and thunder down churning water falls. Back on dry land unravel the mystery of Loki’s Labyrinth, a Nordic themed hedge maze.

Lego Land in Windsor brings out the hero in everyone. There are around 50 amazing rides, attractions and live shows for the whole family.

Then there is Berkshire’s main attraction which is Windsor Castle, one of the three official residences of Her Majesty The Queen.

It has been a sovereign residence for over 900 years thanks to it’s convenient location West of London.

Windsor Castle is not only the largest inhabited castle in the world but is definitely the oldest in continuous occupation. From every approach in the town you can see it’s imposing towers and battlements which simply loom large.

It creates one of the world’s spectacular skylines and visitors here can walk around the State apartments, extensive suites of rooms in the heart of this working Palace. You can also see the State Rooms which are some of the most splendid interiors of the castle. These rooms are furnished with the treasures from the Royal Collections, including paintings by Holbein, Rueben, Van Dyck and Lawrence fine tapestries and porcelain, sculpture and armour.

Within the Castle there are many additional attractions including the Drawings Gallery, Queen Mary’s Doll House and the 14th Century St. George’s Chapel which is the burial place of ten sovereigns and the setting for many a Royal Wedding.

Berkshire’s Windsor castle is clearly one of the seven wonders of Britain.

You will never forget your Berkshire Vacation even if you just come here once !
